GEORGIA TUSHETI

Ride or hike over passes and summits reaching 3,250 meters high, offering amazing panoramas; pass through villages nestled in the mountains and beautiful wild valleys away from any civilisation. Discover the traditions and culture of the last semi-nomadic people of Georgia and overnight with them.
For audacious riders, take part in the “transhumance” – the seasonal migration -- when we drive all the horses back to the winter pasture.

GEORGIA BADLANDS

Ride across the unexpected landscapes that offers the semi-desert in the South East of Georgia in Kakheti. A multi days horseback trail through the multicoloured tangles of canyons, glowing white reddish Mountains sculpted by thousands years of erosion, salty lakes, monasteries and cave dweller cities carved in the rock dating back the 6th century. Some of them are still inhabitated and hides some incredible frescoes from the 13th century. Soviet farms, green valleys, Iori river and starry skies.

AZERBAIJAN

From Tbilisi (Georgia) to Vladikavkaz (Russia) we drive through the famous Darial Gorge which for the ancients (roman period) was the end of the known world. You ride one week with the Adyghes on amazing Kabardin horses selected for their endurance capabilities.
We approach « off the beaten track » Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in the Caucasus, riding along ridges and summits and enjoying the immensity of the high plateaus (3100m).
We also ride into incredible canyons, passing by waterfalls and visiting hidden caves and stay with horsemen and a herd of 150 Kabardin horses living free around our tents.

Audrey leads you to some special sites, off the beaten track where you will meet some unusual and unique people.

1 TRIP 2 COUNTRIES

Combining two Caucasian countries in one trip allows you to discover their cultural heritage, religion and paradoxes, understand their alliances and conflicts. We explore key places and off the beaten track. You experience the similarities and divergences of the
Caucasian world, and enjoy the ethnographic and linguistic richness. Add on a hike in the striking wilderness to encounter the variety of the untouched ecosystems.

CAUCASIAN GASTRONOMY

A culinary journey of discovery explores not only a large range of tables from famous chefs to family hosting but also all the actors linked directly or indirectly to gastronomy and some Georgian places of interests across beautiful landscapes and cities. Christophe Lavelle is a renowned lecturer and researcher at the CNRS and National Museum of Natural History in Paris, specialised in food. He animates this cultural and tasty gourmet getaway around the art of the table across Georgia. Audrey organises the whole trip.

Caucasus Expedition is a pioneering local agency in Georgia specialised in remote expeditions on horseback and on foot. Over 18 years, Audrey and her team have been one of the only organisations to offer self sufficient horse riding trails lasting several days through the Great Caucasus Mountains. Known for her unusual and unique « off beaten tracks » routes she found and created in Tusheti, Azerbaijan and Kabardino Balkaria, Audrey together with local friends take you beyond the mountains. On a multi days horseback riding trails, long hiking itineraries, riders and hikers will discover behind the scenes of Georgia. Our newborn is HORSERIDING GEORGIA which is offering Autumn and Spring horseback expedition in the semi desert close to the wintering place of our horses.

Our trips & expeditions 2024

Since the beginning of our activities, we have worked for a local economic development (valorization of the local products, sales without intermediaries …), the promotion of aboriginal culture and traditions and have rewarded our collaborators on a fair distribution of our gains. We organise our horse riding and hike expeditions with the greatest environmental respect in terms of quantity of waste and pollution. All of our trips are very close to the local population.
