SPRING TRANSHUMANCE part 2 2023 / GUARANTEE
It is time to drive our horses back to the Great Caucasus Mountains. This is a long way up to there. The horses are at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains waiting for the best conditions to cross the terrific Abano pass which lies at 3000m high. At this time the pass is likely still under 2 meters of snow. After 2 days riding with the flock of sheep, the shepherds dogs and other herd of horses we reach the Tusheti region. Our goal is Gogrulta a small village perched on a middle size mountain summit. From there we discover the Tusheti National Park and the amazing panorama and the snow capped summits all around.
We meet some shepherds on our way on the wintering territory. We ride the Tush horses, the local bred of the Caucasus Mountains. We are mostly away from touristic trails. Though the conditions of the transhumance are hard, (please have a look to the details), it remains an unique experience. This ride takes place once a year.
